Lost Promises
My world turns black--
                        A city without lights.
A skinny boy with scared wrists
           Shines hauntingly through the night

Rap, piercing my ears.
Dark water splashing against the dirt.

A sad smile creeps across your face
As the sky slowly begins to lighten
The pale princess pinks and purples struggling to break through
The bright as fire orange slowly creeping through
              The darkness.

My hand trembles,
A cigarette between my cold fingers
      Rushing to touch my lips.

I inhale quickly,
The nicotine hitting the back of my throat.

The scar runs deep down your arm
One cut.
White where the knife had penetrated your skin,
Like a hockey blacked cutting across the ice.
            Pink wrapped tightly around,
                     As to remind you
                          To remind me
Of the blood that was lost
The night you tried to leave.

The white smoke swirls up to the stars,
          Your face appears:
White as the stars against the night sky.

Your bright blue eyes turn black
         With regret
                 Over the mistakes you’ve made.
         When you glance up
Your hands are tense:
As you bring your cigarette to your lips.

Smoke comes dripping out of your mouth…

The sad smile stays plastered to your face,
Like a cube of ice frozen to the lake.
